Your hosts are: Duncan and Caroline Woodhead

Duncan and Caroline purchased this 42 acre property in 2003. They had owned a Stonefruit Orchard on the other side of Alstonville for 15 years but in January 2000, they set off cruising in their 38ft yacht, with their young sons, aged 8 and 6 years. They home schooled the boys and travelled from Australia to NZ, Tonga, Fiji, New Caledonia and Vanuatu and home to Ballina.

When they returned from cruising they wanted a property with ocean views and having sold the orchard they started on the exciting project of developing this uncultivated property.
They knew the land was not suitable for horticulture so with their joint interest in people, holidays and the environment they decided on the new adventure of rural tourism and created Alstonville Country Cottages, opening in November 2005. They are also involved in restoring the native rainforest remnants and breeding Murray Grey cows.
