We proudly welcome you to share our property. Originally from the UK, we have lived in the Alstonville area for over 25 years. Duncan originally farmed peaches and nectarines whilst Caroline, lectured at the local University.
In 2002 we bought the 42 acres of rural pastureland with a vision to develop a rural tourism facility to share our love for this beautiful area and what can be grown on the red soil of the Alstonville plateau. We built our own timbercrete house as well as landscaping and building eight spacious cottages, a function room and large pool.
Duncan has used his background in horticulture to plant 100s of flowering shrubs to create these beautiful gardens and a selection of fruit trees for all to enjoy. As a result the mature grounds are full of native plants and bird life. We have also enjoyed regenerating the Heritage Rainforest on the property, a remnant of the Big Scrub. Our love of animals means we have a selection of friendly animals, including dogs, a donkey, horses, cows and chickens.
In between developing and running the cottages, we indulge our other passion, sailing. As well as sailing on the Richmond River and the east coast of Australia, we also cruised the Pacific for several years as a family, on a 38ft sloop. We have now just completed a four year circumnavigation, sailing from Ballina to the south western Caribbean on our Whitby 42.
We look forward to sharing our stories and adventures with you and what we love about living on the Byron Hinterland.
